Professor Stayton has been a sex therapist for over 40 years. William Stayton has identified three moral value systems that are common to all patients; the therapist needs to identify to which of the three value systems he belongs to.
The three moral value systems common to all patients as identified by William Stayton are as follow:
- The "A" value system based on the acts of Sex (determinning what is moral and immoral)
- The "B" value system based on relationships (focus of concerns are the motives of choice)
- The "C" value system combining elements of the two previously mentioned systems and based upon people's own emotion and comfort level.
In Professor Stayton's experience, it is very important to know where people are coming from because it is very difficult to treat a person outside their value systems.
